Individual therapy is a combined process between a therapist and person in therapy. Common goals in therapy can be to inspire change or improve quality of life. With individual therapy you learn to become more self aware of your thoughts, triggers, emotions, and behaviors. Together, we develop coping mechanisms and strategies to create the positive changes you envision.
Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) is an integrative psychotherapy approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective in the treatment of trauma. This treatment is aimed to reduce the vividness and intensity of emotions of traumatic memories. This structured therapy encourages the client to focus on traumatic memories while simultaneously engaging in bilateral stimulation/eye movements. Ongoing research also shows positive outcomes with EMDR helping treat anxiety, OCD, and PTSD. Grounding and resourcing tools are implemented and practiced with clients prior to reprocessing disturbing memories.
"It's ok to feel bad. It's ok to feel lonely. It's okay to feel overwhelmed. It's okay to feel anxious. It's okay to feel unsure. It's okay not to be okay. Normalize accepting things you can't change or control. It's okay if people misunderstand you. It's okay if things don't go your way. It's okay if you have a bad day. Accept, let go, and find peace."
